SAD FATALITY.
YOUNG MAN ASPHYXIATED,
A sad falality occurred ct tho Gisborne Sbeepfarmers’ freezing works about halfpast ten yesterday morning, a young man named William MoLecd, aged 19, sou of Mr D. McLeod, H-irbcr Board overseer, being asphyxiated by the gas from tbe suction producer gis plant. Deceased was engaged in running c.£f accumulated water from the main, He had opened the outlet from the pipe, and must have obtained a fuil breath cf the gas, being overpowered before he could get away. He was not discovered for some time, and for probably half an hour was exposed to the gas. He was found by Mr R. E, Lindsay, second engineer, Btretchod out in front ol the pipe, apparently dead, Deceased was pulled away by Messrs Lindsry and George Mcßae, who endeavored to resuF.citite hm, Mcßae then exam* ined the pipe and found tbe outlet open. At oonsidirabie risk he pluckily succeeded in closing it again, but was rendered uooon-c’ojs and had to be dragged away.
