Civil Service Superannuation Bill.
INTRODUCED BY THE GOVERNMENT.
'(Special to Times.) Wellington, last night. The new Civil Service Superannuation Bill, which was brought down yesterday by Governor’s message, is in the main identical with last year’s measure. The following are the chief alterations : The High Commissioner’s Office and the Legislative branch are brought within the I moaning of the Bill, Tho provision that persons appointed to the service after the commencement of the Act shall pay 5 per cent is omitted. Previous service in the police force is made to reckon as service
for the purposes of the fund. Any contributor to the police provident fund, the railway superannuation fund, or the present fund, whose service has not been continuous, and who has received no pension or compensation in respect of his last service, shall be entitled to count his previous service under the fund to which he may be contributing. Any contributor to the police, teachers, railways, or civil service fund, who may be transferred from one branch of the Government service to another, shall continue in the fund he originally joined, to receive its benefits. Tho ballot of abolition of the police fund is to take place within six months of tho coming into operation of the Act, instead of twelve as in last year’s Bill. With regard to the Manawatu Railway Company’s employees last year’s Bill provided that the Company should pay into tho fund by way of subsidy an annual sum to be agreed upon betwoen the MinisI teraod tho oompany with respect to persons who join the company after tho coming into opera'ion of the Bill. Tbit year’s Bill provides that if tho oompaoy pay HIOOO a year for five years tho benefits aeeruiog to any parson who is iu the company’s employ when the Act comes into operation, and who pays the prescribed contributions, shall be computed oa his full period of continuous service. The allowauee to widows remains the same as provided in last year’s Bill, namely, LlB a year.
