GISBORNE RACING CLUB

ANNUAL MEETING,

The annual meeting of the Gißborno Bacing Club was held at tho Gisborne Hotel la9t evening, Mr J. A. Harding presiding. About twonty-fivo members were present.

In moying tbo adoption of tho report, duly presented, Mr Harding referred, to the great success of tho year's operation?. He oould not say how tho question of the totalisator was going to afiset them in the futuro, The committee were anxious to make the Patk grounds as attractive as possible, and he was sure he would have the support of members in this direction, Mr D, Hepburn seconded tbo adoption of the report. Ho advised caution in regard to the expenditure on improvements. He thought arrangements oould be made with tho Agricultural Sooiety in regard lo permanent improvements to the grouod. The club was in an excellent position, holding a very floe property.

Mr G. Oman was in aooord with the previous speaker. Ho thought the committoo should act cautiously in regard to future expenditure. Mr 0. White oongra-ulated tho olub on the exoellent results obtained during the past year. Mr G. Matthowson spoka in terms of praise of the progress made during the past season. Ho thought the club could with advantage sell part of their property and wipe off their overdraft, soeiDg the land was absolutely of no use to them. Tha report was adopted. Thera wore seven retiring members of committee, and all offered themselves for re election. There woro nine nominations, and the ballot resulted in the election of the following: Messrs C, J. Parker, D. Hepburn, G. Matthowson, 0. D. Bennett, T. McConnoli, J. E, Whitby, and G, B. Oman.

Considerable discussion took plaoe in regard to the use cf proxies and Mr D, J. Barry tabled a notice of motion for the next general meeting that the rule allowing the exercising of proxies be resoinded. A number of matters in regard to the improvement of tha oourse, salaries of officials, etc., were discussed, and were referred to the incoming oommittoe. A meeting of tho oommittee will be held on Wednesday evening next.
