THE CHAMPIONSHIPS. PRESS ASSOCIATION

Christohurob, last night, The semi-finals of the New Zealand Golf Championships were played to-day at the Shirley links. The weather was fine, but a stiff breeze blew aoross the links from the north-east. S. H. Gollan, of Napier, defeated K- Tareha, also of Napier, by 2 up and 1 to play. Both played rather indifferently in the earlier stages of the game, their putting being particularly weak. During the eeoond part of the game, however, Gollan played some magnifioent long shots, and made the 13th hole 440 yards in 3, whioh is a record for the hole. Tareha played a very good olose game, but got into difficulties towards the end of the 17'h bole played 7 were won by Gollan, 5 by Tareha, and 5 were halved, W. T. V. Harman, of Christchurch, defeated J. 0. Bidwell, of Wairarapa, by 2up and 1 to play after a very evenly-played game. To-morrow Harman and Gollan will play off for the championship over a 36 hole course.
