STEAMER STRIKES REEF
U.S.S, CO.’S NEW LINER DAMAGED.
PRESS ASSOCIATION Auckland, last night.
News per the steamer Taviuni states that the s s. Atua ran on a reef in Apia Harbor 'when leaving Suva. One of the engines would not work, and the steamer *>went up on the- reef for 15ft. It is stated that the steamer was leaking, evidently having several plates damaged. A marine •Board enquiry into the accident was to take place at Suva on September 5. The Atua is due at Sydney to-morrow.

She left again on Wednesday, and is ex ' peoted to arrive in Sydney on Wednesday.
