CRIMINAL SITTINGS,
(Before His Honor Mr Justieo Edwards ) Tbo orimiua! sittings of the Supreme Court opened yrslorday morning bofore bis Honor Mr Justieo Edwards. There was only a moderuto attendance cf the public, the reason probably boing that there wero bit three criminal case 3 to bo dealt with.

In the course of a brief address, his Honor congratulated tho grand jury cn the small number of cases to oomo before them. Toey wouli carefully consider these end see whether there was sufficient evidence against the acoused to justify them being plamd on their trial. The only oaso calling forspeoial comment wae last on the lift, being a charge of obtaining goods and money under false prrtencrs. It wsb alleged that the accused had obtained goods and vatious sums of money |by meau3 of valueless chtqucs. Ho had given bis own cheques, which were returned dishonored. Tho aooused may have had an account ot the bank, end the I jury would have to take into consideration the faot whether he bad a reasonable expectation of the cheques being paid.

A J UROR’S MISTAKE,
In calling the Common Jury Mr A F. Kennedy failed to appear. Arriving later ] Mr Kennedy apologised to tho Court and stated that ho had made a mistake. He was under tho impression tha his summons was for the Grand Jury, having always served on that jury previously. When the Grand Jury returned lie had left tho Court. His Honor accepted the explanation, remarking that all were expected to serve on the Common Jury and in his opinion rightly so. HORSE STEALING. An elderly native Darned Molreoa Horua was indicted oo a charge of having stolen ptnuftjyyffe.?, a colt and a filly, at Tupatoo, 1 BtcotioD, and Mr Gi'B'roiAr.iuo,^, 1 Mr 11.
