PRESS ASSOCIATION Ashburton, last night. At a sitting of the Arbitration Court here tq-day a linn of painters was fined iGd and costs for employing two' apprentices to one journeyman. On the application of the Painters’ Union two firms who had not been included as parties to a recent award wore joined, There were three cases for breach of award against Ashburton Woollen Mills, for failing to grant a yearly increase in wages. A fine of £5 was inflicted for paying half rate. In tho second case the fine was £5, the judge stating that it liad not been a breach, but it liad been distinctly proved there liad been failure to make an arrangeinent for two looms. In the new mode of working adopted provision had not been made for the lower rate of working for the second loom.
