A SUICIDE.
A DISCONTENTED MAN.
I’ItESS ASSOCIATION Auckland, last night. At the inquest on the body of Samuel James Bullivant, who was found dead under circumstances which indicated that he had hanged himself, evidence was given by Edward James N. Bullivant, grandson of deceased, in which lie said that ho saw his grandfather at (i p.m oil the previous evening, when lie seemed all right. Witness rose in the morning, and on going to get his horse found the deceased hanging by his neck from the beam in the bail of a cow shed James Bullivant, son of deceased, said that Ji is father had been living with him for the last 18 months With regard to a note left' by deceased, in which he stated that the vegetables given to him- “were put of the pigs' stuff,” witness could only imagine that lie was under a hallucination at the time lie wrote what lie did. Ilis meals were served in his own room at his particular wish, and consisted of the same food as was on witness’s own tabic.
Several other witnesses deposed to having conversations at various times with deceased, who had always seemed perfectly satisfied, and had never made complaint. Dr. Bull, who inspected the body, said that the appearances were such as would be present in a ease of self strangulation. The cause of death was suffocation, the result of hanging. The jury returned a verdict to the effect that deceased had committed suicide while of unsound mind, the opinion being expressed that deceased's statement that he had been fed on pigs' food was not borne out by the evidence.
