A letter from tbo Cadet Department relative ta the proposal to hold an encampmen! of cade's at Christchurch in connection with tho Intornationsl Exhibition was referred to each mombir to report on tbo question so far as it affected his particular distric'.

O l the suggestion of Mr Darton, it was agreed that on receipt of reports a com mitteo be set up to consider tbo matter; also to go ioto the question as to whother it is feasible to send other pupils than those in cadet oorp3 to the Exhibition a 3 well.

The Gisborne Hgb Bchool Board and Gisborne School Committee wrote off-ring to outer upon a fresh agreement for two years with regard to tho subsidising of ibe salaries of toaobers of secondary subjects, and recommended tho appointment of Mr Kinder as first assistant master at a salary of £240 in succession to Mr Maun. On the motion of Me Darton, it wa3 decided that a circular bo issued to a’.l teachers, informing them tb it it has been reported to tho Beard that teachers generally ara not taking advantage of t-sohmcal c’asaES as they should, and pointing out to teachers that tho Board, ia making future appointments, will take into consideration the fact of the applicant having attended technical classes. Mr Darton drew attention to the preponderating proportion of children in the lower classes, and aeked that Inspco-or Hill furnish a report as to whether these classes are sufficiently staffed, as to the ape of children, and as to the methods used for the promotion of children, to see whethor they could not be brought forward more quickly into advanced classes.
