The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cablegram from tho High Commissioner, dated London, August lltb : Mutton ; The market remains very depressed. Canterbury brands are quoted at 3-Jd and North Island at 3}l per lb. Lamb: The market has deolined fur. tbor. CaDtrrbury brands are Belling at 4Jd per lb, and ether than Canterbury at 4; 1 per lb. Beef: The market is steady. Hind, quarters are quoted at 8J 3, and forequar* tera at 2, 1 ,1 to 2JI per lb. Butter: The market remains firm. Sicce last quotation the market has been favorably by the Continental Weather. i’
Cheesb: There is a good demand for cheese, and Canadian makes are quoted at 59d per cwt. Hemp : The market is not quoted, hut the steady prioe of g.f.a.q., Wellington, on spot, is D 34 per ton, and business is being done in di.-tant deliveries at the same figures. Stock cn hand is 869 toDs, against 2859 tons for tbe corresponding period of last year. Fair current Manila, on spot, is quoted at £43 per ton.
Pooksfoot seed: The market is quiet, with a ten'denoy in favor of buyers. Afnerji can seed is freely offered, Wool: The market is quiet, with no alteration in tho prices of Now Zea'aud crossbreds.
Wheat: On spot, ex granary, is quoted at 31s to 02s per quarter 4961 b, and for short delivery at 30s 61 to 31s 61 per quarter. Those prices are nominal.
■ Oats: New Zealand sparrowbill oats, ex granary, per OS'llb, are quoted at 24s fid to 25s 61, and Danish oats, per 3201 b, ara selling at 19s ro 21s. The market is quiet, and only a small business is doing,
