RECHABITISM.

ANNIVERSARY GATHERING;

Lost evening was the occasion of the celebration of the anniversary of the Reobabite Order in Gisborne, the function taking the form of a conversazione, it being held in His Majesty's Theatre. As in former years tbo Gisborne Tent (male) and Star of New Zea'and Tent (female) combined in the celebration. There was a large audience present, and a splendid

varied programme was presented. The Rev. Bro. E. W. Walker presided, and in tbo course of a short address urged upon bis hearers the advantages of beiDg a member of a friendly society. Ho dwelt upon the benefits derivable in the Recha* bite Order, and pointed out that the'Qrder offered advantages beyond that of any other Order, in that it induced persons to remain total abstainers. The Reohabite Order was a tee total friendly society, and was the largest and wealthiest temperance organisation in the world, The Order offered large benefits with small oontribu. tions, and he advised total abstainers to join.

The programme contained several

attractive items. A strong brass orchestra was present, and rendered during the evening three pleasing selections, which were well received. In his song, “ The Marriage Bells,” Mr Dudley Trent was highly successful, receiving well-merited applause " How McDougall topped the Score ” was a popular recitation given by Bro. A. Rice, who received hearty plaudits, as did also Mr F. Gobden in his recitation, ” A Bush Christening.” Sister R. R : ce scored hearty success in her song, *' The Bismarck Grenadiers.” Bro. E. W. Walker pcoved himself a reciter of no mean ability in his recitation “ The Roman Bridge,” winning warm applause. Much interest was oenlred in the liviDg, pictures—a series of tableaux. 11 Reck of Ages ” was a pretty series of three pictures in which Sisters Haycock, Ditroy, Smith, and IftßS Haycook took part. Another picture, Moses in the ! BhirusheS,” was also very successful, Mr F. Cobderi repre? seniing Moses. The programme ooneluded wiih a one-act comedy, •> Turn Him Out,” the characters being : Nicodstnas Nobbs, Bro. A. Rioe ; Eglantine Eoseleaf, Bro. T. Holdswortb ; Mr Moke, Bro. R. H. Clark; Susan, Sister R. Nsleon; Mrs Moko, Sister E. Dalroy The oomedy was well staged, and went with a fine swing throughout, the characters being moet capably sustained.

During tbe evening refreshments wore handed round, and were much appreciated. Tboso who assisted towards the snooess of tbe function were Sisters Clark, Hsyoock, Dickerson, Rice, Smith, Anderson, with Broe. Clark, Holdsworth, Haycock, Soott, Rice,' Walker, Claydeo, Morgan, Slack, Ebehng, anc} Larritt, wbile'‘Sieter StimeiS veil and Bro. Nasmith were the joint seorelaties.
