The Italian steamer Siris, from Genoa for Buenos Ayres, with eight hundred emigrants, sunk on tho Tarmigas shoals, eighteen miles from Cartbagena. The vessel sunk stern first, within half an hour of striking the shoal, There was -a fearful panic. Man y jumped into the sea. A TERRIBLE EIGHT.
Italian emigrants completely lost self control and fought with knives and revolvers for the lifebelts and the boats, They completely overoamo the officers and orew, who were trying to save the women and children.
SEA QUITE CALM. Tho sea was quite calm. Fishing boats put out. Several were overloaded with emigrants and sank, drowniDg their would-be rescuers. Tho captain shot himself when he saw the ship’s boats in possession of the emigrants.
The officers then abandoned tho ship
