A highly-respected veteran died suds denly yesterday afternoon on the Makauri road leading to Mr MeCreadj'a storp. John Gotten, an cid-ago pensioner, w-s walking along the road to his homo at Mr McCready V, about half a mile away. Sud. penly tho old man staggered and fill, aud the Rev. Mr Gardiner, who happened to be walking along tho road at the time, ran to the assistance of Mr Gorton, but Iho latter was beyond human aid. The body was conveyed to the deceased's old home, where it now lies. Tbe deceased was a New Zealand war veteran, and an old-age pensioner who was thought well of by everybody who kuow him.
