DEFENDANT PLEADS GUILTY. PRESS ASSOCIATION i Wellington, last night. • • The false and defamatory libel case, in which Alfred Atnory George was privately , prosecuted by Inspector Macdonnell, of Napier, was called on before the Chief Justice this afternoon in the Supreme Court. The case was tried at Napier last sessions, when the jury failed to agree. This afternoon accused pleaded guilty, and ‘ after Mr bksrrett bad explained that laepector Macdonnell would prefer that accused should bB dealt with leniently His Honor admitted accused to probation foe three months, conditional upon big paying the costs of the prosecution.
