Mr Gladstone denied the Bill waß a Bop to the Nonconformist coDßoiencß, both Houses of Convocation haying urged its adoption. Sydney, August 2. In the Assembly, tue Attorney-General introduced a Bill for the regulation of gambling and bettiog. Its provisions include a fine of £IOO for anyone betting on the street?, or betting or soliciting bets from anyone under 21 years of sg.\ The Bill l'mits the number of racing dayp. All race mootings mu3t be licensed. Besides horse racing, the Bill deals with other sports. The police are given sum maiy powers. PRESS ASSOCIATION Wellington, last night. Instructions have been issued by the Postal Department, at the instance of the Postmaster-General, that a’l bookmakers’ connections with the various telephone exchanges in the colony are to be cut oil from September 30th. The acliou is believed to have been influenced by the police authorities with a view to suppressing gambling.
