PRESS ASSOCIATION Groymouth, last night. ( George Bidgood was charged at the B.M. Court, on remand, with attempting to shoot Kathleen Burke, with intent to commit murder. From the evidence given it appears that accused was in love
with a girl named Jackson, who, however, broke off the engagement A short time afterwards the girl, in company with another young man, proceeded down the quay, and passed where accused was working He espied them, and used to her disgusting language. Later in the day he proceeded to her home and knocked at the door. Miss Burke came to the door and he raised a revolver to her head. She pushed it away, screaming out,;; Tam not, Daisy" (ntcairng Miss Jackson', Other people came to the rescue and Bidgood departed. Subsequently he was arrestou. After hearing the evidence the Magistrate committed accused for trial at Hokitika, bail being granted.
Later.—The C-ouit was crowded to day when George Bidgood was ehatgod with attempted mutdor of a young lady named Daisy Jackson. Bidgood is a young mar, highly respected, and a long resident of the district. He is eli eged to have purchased a revolver and gone to the girl's (home with intent to shoot her. The evidence showed that Bidgood was engaged to the girl four or five months ago, and since tho engagement had been broken off ha had caused her annoy arc >. The factor the girl having nothing to do with Bid good woiked on his mind, and tho attempt to shoot her was the result of jealousy. Accused was committed for trial, bail' being allowed. Bidgood was examined by a medical tnaD, but was declared to be f aoe.
