PRESS ASSOCIATION Wellington, last night. The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cable from the High Commissioner, dated London, July 21st: —Tho mutton market is quiet. There is no alteration in prices to report. Tho lamb market is steady. Shipments at present arriving arc very heavy. Stocks have been distributed amongst agents pushing sales, and a large business has been done. The average price of Canterbury brands is sd, other than Canterbury 4,fd. The beef market is depressed The average prices ruling arc 4[d and 2]d for hind and forequarters respectively. The butter market is strong. All stocks arc advancing. Prospects for next season arc encouraging. Choicest New Zealand brands are selling at 107 s. The stock, however, is small. Danish is quoted at 115 s, Canadian lC5s per cwt. The cheese market is steady. The Now Zealand supplv has been practically exhausted. White cheese is quoted at 645. colored 60s per cwt. Canadian makes arc selling at 58s per cwt. The cocksfoot seed market is quiet. It is reported that the American crop is expected to bo good, Buyers are keen for business. The average price of bright clean New Zealand seed, 17lb per bushel, is 46s per cwt. The wool market is irregular and closed firm. The estimated values of the different classes" are: Fine crossbreds, all grades, Is 2d to Is 4d per lb; medium crossbreds, all grades Jls to Is 2d per lb; coarse crossbreds, |all grades, lOjd to Is Lid per lb ; superior merino, Is Id to Is 3d per lb ; medium merino, lid to Is Id per lb : inferior merino, 8d to Is Old per lb. There is a general and uctive demand, and the trade is good.
