WHITE MINERS PLACED FOR CHINESE. I’RESS ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGHT Rooeived 9.26 p.m., July 19. London, July 19. Four thousand white miners on the Rand petitioned the King against the repatriation of Chinese, declaring that it meant ruin to themselves and families.
Capetown, July 18. Lord Solborne, speaking at a luncheon at Pietersburg, appealed to the Boers to prove that thoy knew how to bear prosperity as well as adversity. He reminded the Boera of their declaration that if people were worth having they were worth trusting. The King showed that he trusted them to the fullest extent by granting responsible government. Received 10.29 p.tn , July 19. Capetown, July 19. Lord Salborno has decided that natives working three mouths oaoh year pay twenty shilling! hut tax instead of forty shillings as formerly.
