PRESS ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGHT Received 9.18 p.m. July 18. Pietermaritzburg. July 18. Considering the rebellion ended Colonel Mackenzie is largely reducing the foroei in the field.
The charges of inhumanity were debated in the Natal Assembly. Mr Wad, Minister of Justice, denied that there was any aot of barbarism on tho part of the military. The methods employed were severe, but not iohumen. Levies might have killed seme of the wounded without the knowledge of European officers, but not to the same extent ai formerly. The number of prisoners oaplured disproved the oharge that no quarter had been given.
