FltliSS ASSOCIATION. Auckland, last night. The s.s. Dovon, which arrived from England to-day, brought 114 immigrants, a likely looking lot. Tho majority paid full passages, only about 20 being assisted by the Government. They include a dozen carpenters, eight farm laborers, eight laborers, nine navvies, nine miners, six plumbers, six bakers, also carters, bricklayers, plasterers, grocers, weavers, mechanics, and clerks. Of the total 2-1 are booked for Auckland, 62 for Wellington, 3.2 for Lyttelton, and 26 for Dunedin. Wellington, last night.
The Hon. McGowan, Minister in charge of Exhibition matters, referring to the Sydney Liedertafel’s resolution relative to the selection of a musical conductor for the Exhibition, says there is no warrant, so far as the Government is concerned, for tho statement that Mr Orchard was appointed.
