TRAMWAY TROUBLE.
SUSPENSION OF PRESIDENT oE UNION,

The tramway trouble has been accentuated by the dismissal of Mr Lawton, President of the Tramway Employees Union, from the service. The grounds of dismissal arc that he signed and caused to be exhibited at various tramway depots an objectionable , notice calculated to subvert discipline, disobeyed the order of the superintendent to remove the notice, objected to its being covered, and refused to answer the questions of his superior officers on the matter. The notice referred to was calling a meeting of the Union to discuss tramway administration, . announcing that startling disclosures would bo made. Lawton, presiding at this meeting, aired a number of the grievances of the men. Hu also alleged favoritism by officials and ineptitude. He also alleged that the tram brakes were iueilicicnt and dangerous. The men’s chief grievances are in regard to the day off, Sunday pay, and alleged favoritism.

Developments on the tramways are anxiously awaited. The men deolare their determination to stand by Lawton, and fight for the removal of grievances, but that they have no intention to dis looate traffic. A meeting to-night is discussing the situation.
