The report of the lloyal Commission upon th* doportalion and repatriation of Kanakas and the sufficiency of labor for the Queensland sugar industry covers fourthousand questions and answers and a number of appendices.

The recommendations include that the Resident and Commisioners in the various groups acquaint the chiefs that islanders may shortly be returned in large numbers, so that increased food supplies may be provided; that the islanders he landed where safe from personal injury ; and that exemption from deportation be allowed in certain cases where it would inflict severe hardship and injustice. The Commission recommends that 2000 inlanders be repatriated in January next, and thereafter 500 monthly. Dealing with the question of the future supply of labor, the Commission reoommends the establishment of a labor intelligence bureau ; that Crown land* be made available in sma'l holdings for the ooeupa'ion of workers of limited means ; that during the next six months efforts be made to ascertain the number of unemployed in Queensland, New South Wales, and Victoria, and b'iDg under their notice the nature of employments ; if a sufficient supply of labor is not obtainable in this manner ioforma* tion be disseminated in the United Kingdom and Earope regarding the sugar industry and facilities for land settlement, with the view of attracting immigrants. All three Commissioners signed the report. Commissioner Paget adds a rider, recommending Kanakas be allowed to continne the work urn it suoh time as transport facilities are afforded. The report states that in April last there were 528 G islanders liable to deportation. The deportations during the next six months will probably reduoe the number to 4000,
