A LITTLE GIRL’S FALL

A child named Elsie Whitehouse, injured by a fall from a train, died this morning.
Tuesday’s Auckland Herald states : An accident happened yesterday morning on the railway, botween Avondale and New Lynn. A little girl fell from a train in motion, and was seriously injured. It appears that a Mrs Whitehouse, wife of Ed. Whitehouse, settler of Matakohe, with four ohildren, left Auckland by the quarter to twelve a.m. train for Matakohe. One of the children, Elsie, 10 years of sge, was on the platform of the carriage, in oompany with her eight year-old brother. Leaving Avondale station there is a steep down grade, and a curve close to the Avondale brick works. Here the ohild fell from the train, and 14 is supposed was thrown oS when the train weg rounding the curve. The boy told his mother that E'sie hid fallen off, hot it was not until the train had reaohed New Lynn that the officials V> heard of the*- unfortunate accident. The >'train was run back from the New Lynn station, and the ohild was discovered at the aide of the line. She was unconscious f and io a bruised condition. Dr. Carolan ' was SBDt for, and be bad the girl removed hto his home Dr. Porter also was somI Aoned. It was found that the right atm S§j|J|B broken, an artery on the left side of 'I Jj skull ruptured, and that she was sufferoonoussion of the brain, and had ipKlysis of the right side. It was necessary to open the skull to stop the bleeding of the ruptured artery.
