London, Juno 27. Sic Joßoph Ward oonferrcd with leadiDg importers in oonsequonoo of Mr Carroll's telegrams that there was a greatly diminished demand for New Zealand tinned meats. Sir Josoph Ward suggested tho utmost publioity as to the system of voterinary and factory inspection. Messrs Weddell and Sir Montague Nelson assured the conference that the diminution was not duo to dissatisfaction with New Zealand’s system, but tho Chicago rovolations had ohoked all demand. Meanwhile the sale of frozen meat bad groatly increased. Mr Gilbert Anderson complained of tho difficulty of scouring War Offioe contracts Reooived 9.22 p.m., June 27,
Mr Reeves explained that the reason was the higher price of the New Zealand article, tho War Office’s praotioo being to acoept tho lowest prioed meat. He would oontinue to make representations in regard to the better value of the New Zealand artiolo. Mr Churchill, in reply to Mr William Redmond, explained the very careful inspection before slaughter in Australasia. He was not aware of any complaint regarding tinned imports thenoe, He added that Lord Elgin recently, at New Zealand’s instnnoe, drow the various Government departments’ attention to tho faot that all frozen and tinned meats were subject in New Zealand to minute inspection under stringent conditions by duly qualified inspectors.
