Auckland, last night. The quiet of Sunday aftsrnoon in Tonga I was broken on May 27th by the arrival pf H.M.S. Pegasus from Suva, bringing Mr Hamilton Hunter, C.MG., British Consul for Tonga, baok from a visit to Fiji. When it beoame known amoDg the natives that Jioaatrki (the late Pre-! mier of ToDga) and bis son Fotu (formerly Treasurer cf the country) had also returned, there was great excitement These two officials were deported in November, 1904, by order of the High Commissioner, and have resided in Suva sinoa- A 9 Jiosateki is now an old man, and as he bad exprrsred a wish to retnrn
to lay his bones in the land of his fathers, he was allowed to come home, upon giviDg his promise to abstain from any 1 aotive interference in Tongan polities. Commander Doyle paid an official visit to his MBja6ty George Tubou 11. on the 29tb, beiog reeeived by a band and a guard of honor in the palace grounds, and the visit was returned by the King on the day following. The IviDg was shown some of the wonders of soience, as applied to modern Sghtibg vessels, (be Marconi telpgcaph being an object of special interest.
