FIRE AT AUCKLAND.
THREE SIOREY BUILDING GUTTED.
(Per Presa Association.') Auckland, last night.
A destructive fire occurred in Queen street last evening, when the fine three storey building owned by Messrs Abbott, KneeboDe, and Tole was gutted. Within 20 minutes of the outbreak the two upper atoreys were a mass of flame. The speotacle was watched by thousands of people. Tas fire brigade, police, and some sailors made a plucky figbt against the fire, and succeeded in confining it to the two upper storeys, which were completed wrecked. All the Btock on the ground floor was ruined by water. J. R. Self, who carrios on a large mercery business and occupied the ground floor, is insured for £3OOO in the Government and Imperial Offioes.
Later,—The City H&ll buildings, gutted to-night, were insured in the South British for £10,300, understood to be largely re-insured.
