Palmerston North, last night. / The attendance at the Winter Show today was very large, but at the same time it was greatly affeotad by the stream of visitors to Wellington to attend the funeral of the Premier to-morrow. East and West Coast trains to day were patronised, but the southern trains carried very few excursionists comparatively speakingjudging of the poultry aod fat Btock classes commenced early this morning. S 0. Stevenson won the first prize and North Island ohampionahip in Dorkings, E. H. Holland was principal prize'taker In Laogsbans and Plymouth Bocks, W. A. Sonman and W. Laney Orpingtons (black), S. B, Hutchinson in Buffs, E. Leighton and B. Bannister in Wyandottes (white), V. Barker, C. E. Darville, E Bateman (goldeo), 0. E. Hood, J. J. Mead, 8. B. Boyes, and G. B. Hutchison (silver), G. B. HutohinsoD, E. Hodgson (buff), J; Jarvis (Miuorcas), J. Currie, J, H. Hopkins, and Mrs Burgess (white Leghorns), E, H- Holland, G. B. Attwood (brown Leghorns), A. Montgomerie, G. Leitob, and E, H. Holland (Andalusians), and F. Gordon and G. B. Hutchinson in bantams and Game. J. T. Sinclair won all prizes in ducks (Aylesbury),W. A. Bowman was the principal prize-taker in Bouene; W. J. Cook (Pekins), S. Avery (Indian Bunner), end Soler Bros., West, and H. G. Bagnail were also successful. Later.—The weather was fine for the .second day of the Winter Show, and the was qaite beyond anticipation. |Many viaitois, principally dairymen or agents, are in town from all parts of the colony, Poultry was judged to-day. The oolleotlon of birds was unanimously eulogised by all the judges as one of the best they had seen. It wsb most representative in character, exhibitors from all patts of the colony rending birds. The prizes were equally distributed over ths oolony. Wyandottes were a great feature. In one seotion there were no lees than 50 entries, a record for the show and the colony. The North Island Poultry Association championships were won as follows: Doik'mgs, 8. C. Lestoren, Ohristchurob ; fantail pigeon, Gardiner and Son’, JohnBonville ; frill pigeon, J, Noble, Sydney ; Minoroas, J. H. Hopkins, Granity. v A feature of Friday afternoon will be a I football oontest between teams from Te I Ante and Wanganui colleges. Special trains are being run from Wanganui and Hawke’s Bay in connection with the event.
