A heavy fine was inflicted upon the master of a vessel at Newoastle, New South \yales, recently, fqr having permitted a prohibition person to enter the Com monwealth, Part K of section Bof the Immigration Act of 1901 gives tbo captain no power to prevent an alien from going ashore, although responsible for his return to the ship. In this case the master bad made every endeavor to assist the authorities, but unsuccessfully. The miuimum fine of £IOO was inilioted, but it is probable that the Commonwralth Minister may be asked to favorably consider the qISO,
