PTAGO SHOW.
BUTTER AND CHEESE.
(Per Press Association.) Dunedin, last night. The Otago A. and P. Society’s Winter Show was opened to-day by the Hon. T. Dunoon, under favorable außpioes. The weather was fine, and the attendance largo. The exhibits were quite np to the standard in quality, and more numerous than usual. The oountry exhibits aro a feature of the Show, although only three oompeted. Taiori carried oil first honors with 302 points ; Waimato 270, and Waihemo 238. The publio would have liked the efforts of pluoky Waimate to have met with more suooess, but as all the judges are Canterbury people thoir decision must be considered oonolusive. In | butter most of the exhibits were from Canterbury, Taieri and the Peninsula Company for some reason standing asido. The South Canterbury Dairy Company, 92 points, secured the first position for throe boxes of faotory butter best suited for export. For the best two boxes of North Island faotories the result was : Norsewood Dairy Company, 92 points, 1 ; Cheltenham Company, 89J points, 2; Cambridge Co.-op Dairy, 88 points, 8. Tho prize for grading points for the season was taken by the Canterbury Central Co.-op Company, 92 35 points ; South Canterbury, 92-73 ; Taiapu, 92‘03 ; Weymouth, 91-83 ; Bcfton 9P13. In oheese the Southland laoiories secured most of the first prizes. Wyndham beat Woodlands by half a point for the best sowt of full cream cheddar (colored) suitable for export. Edendale beat Mataura for the best sowt of fall oream oheddar (white). Mataura gained first place by a half point over Wyndham in the best factory-made oheese, white or colored. Edendale seoured three first places for the best owt sout direct to the Show. Waikouaiti was a point and a half ahead of O'amite for the best case of factory-made loaf oheese.
Fat oattle were a email olass, Clarkson and Son, Canterbury, taking the prize for fat bnlloek.
There was k*en competition in fat sbcep suitable for freezing, the prizes being divided between Westenra Bros,, Canterbury, N.Z. and A. Land Co., and W. S. Fleming, Sonthland. The display of grain, roots, etc. was excellent.
A new feature was an exhibit by child ren, which proved very interesting.
