X ' 4 oonforenoe of the Auckland branohes of the Farmers’ Union was opened yesterday, the following resolutions being earned 6 That in the opinion of this meeting all Backs used for the purpose of ohaff, grain, and other farm prodooe should be paid for, and not weighed in as at present. That the Government be urged to so amend the Hospital and Charitable Aid Aot as to give isolated districts out off from aid from any hospital, and where an organisation exists for support of a medioal man, a olairn on subsidy against their eubecrip. tione, and also on a portion of the rales levied. r That should the present New Zealand tariff be altered it should be in the direction cf making it a revenue tariff, but in D0 ipu ase etloU,d lfc * 3e made more protective. That farmprs should agree tp the removal of duties on farm produce, provided all other protective duties are roduoed to a rovoDue basis. - Th-t all largo areas of land thrown open for settlement should be settled under the optional clauses of the Land Act. That injectors under the Noxious Weeds Act be given power to enforoe the Jaw against offenders without permission from Weiilogton, as at present. That Crown and native lands be under the control of an inspeotor, witff power to ffear the same of noxious weeds. That all holders of lease-in-perpetuily
or perpetual lease or small grazing runs have tho right to purohase the freehold at any time after the improvement conditions have been complied with, either by immediate cash payments or payments extending over an indefinite time, reduction of rent to be made in proportion to snoh payments, no transfer to bo registered unless sueh transfer has attaohed a tion by the purohaier, in terms of the Land ~ Aot and Lands for Settlement Act. That no valuer should be appointed under the Land Valuation Aot unless he possesses local knowledge. That local bodies in various districts be ?iven power to appoint one of the members io act in oonjunolion with tho Government valuer in valuing the properties of its paricu ar diatriot, and that this meeting ig maDimously of opinion that it is necessary o have local knowledge to be able to give i fair valuatioo. “
That local bodies be given power „to appoint one of the assessors at the Assessment Revision Court in the district Affected,
