A discussion took place in the Stock Exchange to-day regarding a telegram published in the Herald yesterday Ihat ! 301 bof picked stone had been scoured at the new Monowai minp, purporting to have oome fr.m the supervisor, Mr H. H. Adams. The telegram was received by telephone. It transpired it was bogus. The matter was placed by the Herald in the hands of tbe polios. Shares sold freely yesterday, advancing from 4Jd to Is, to-day’s quotations being, buyers 41, sellers 7d, The Exohange negatived a motion by the obairman tocanoel all sales, but authorised tho oommittie to ioour expenditure to make tbe fullest inquiry. It was also resolved that all transfers are to le handed to thß chairman, and payment of shares withheld pending the oommittce’s report.
