The entries for the winter show, which opens next week, are 128 in advance of last year. There is an increase in every I class except fat cattle, The butter and I cheese entries are especially satisfactory. The Council of Churches discussed the question of Sunday trading in some shops, ft was stated that in one place there were forms for youths to sit on while they were served with lemonade, etc., and some | cheap literature was provided. It was I decided to confer with the Inspector of Police and members of Parliament on the subject. The question of taking part in a public meeting to protest against the Government cutting off access to the foreshore was disposed of by the previous question being carried. If was resolved that the Council affirm its antagonism to the totali.ator, and agree to make a decisive attack upon it.

The Conciliation Board to day gave rthcr consideration to unsettled points the coachworkers’ dispute. After hear-

ing addresses on behalf of the respective sides the Board retired to consider’ its recommendations.

Timnru, last night.

I Census returns for the Tirnaru Borough were completed to-day. The total popula tion is 7608, an increase of 1184 on the 1901 returns. Beckoning, in part of Glenita riding of Levels County, constituting suburbs of tbe borough, it gives a population of the whole town of about 9600. Waiimitc Borough has 1637, an incrcasc’of 278. Other returns arc not yet complete, except Mackenzie County, where the total is 2938, an increase of 296. In the Tirnaru Borough inhabited dwel lings increased from 1217 to 1465, with 14 empty and 11 incomplete buildings
