STRANDED BARQUE.
THE VINCENNES STILL ON
MANLY BEACH.
By Itlegraph, Press A*s’n, Copyright
Sydney. May 26
It is alleged that when the barque Vincennes was making the Heads she sighted a light similar to a lightship, also lights to starboard. The captain, who was making his first visit to Sydney, steered between the two. Another explanation is that the vessel was on her right course, but the gale rendered her uncontrollable. Received 10.42 a.m., May 27.
Efforts to refioat the Vincennes have so far been unavailing.
The Vincennes is a steel vessel of 1789 tons register. She sailed from Cherbourg, France, on August sth last, and arrived at Yokohama on February 7th, and sailed on March 19th for Sydney for orders.
