Mr PrestoD, Canadian Emigration Commissioner in Eoglaud, gave seneational evidence before the Dominion Houso of Representatives committee on colonisation, relating to affairs in connec ion with the inception of tho North Atlantic Trading Company. He declared that after Lord Strathoona and J, G. Coloner, secretary of the Canadian High Commissioner, held a meeting with steamship agents in Ham burg in 1898, to discußa the enlargement of tbo field of continental emigration to Canada, baron Ha'zfieldi, then German Ambassador in England, was instructed that unlors Lord Stra'boona was able to satisfactorily explain this action it was inadvisable that Lord Strathcona should return to Germany. Mr Preston understood that an explanation made through Lord Salisbury wbb that German law must hot be transgressed, Mr Preslon added that the company was formed, tho continental booking ageuts being pledged not to violate the laws of the countries wharein they operated. The names cf those a6s'ciated in the matter have been kept confidential.
