SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

A meeting of the Gisborne Sohool Committee was he'd last night, there beiog present: Messrß Somervell (chairman), Barlow, Nield, Wildish, Nisbett, Brown, Cjlley, and Dartoo. On behalf of ths Visiting Committee, Mr Colley reported on various matters, with reoommtndations on seveial subjects. The question of funds ioterpoaed, and it was resolved to approve of the improvements be'ng carried out as funds were available.

Tho question of a separate education district came up, and after several motions had been suggested, it was romlvod, on tho motion of Mr Barlow, seconded by Mr Wildish, That all sohool oomorttnrs in tho distriot be asked to appoint de'egatcß to difouss tho advisability of fo.-ming a School Committees’ Association for ths purposo of hiioging about a separate Board of Educalion and other important matters,

The hoadm art r, Mr Rowioy, reported that tho attendance for the paßt four weeks had been 822, or 87 per ceot of the roil number, 944. He moved, and Mr Darton seconded, that regret bo exproEsed at tbe loss, and that the commilfeo bad not the funds to make it good. Au amendment by Mr Wildisb, seconded by Mr Nisbett, was carried on the oba : rm.ao’s casting vote to refer the metier back to tbo Board. A »ub committee was appointed to deal ( with tenders (five) for school req lisites.
