HOCKEY NOTES

(By Spectator.)

The hockey season was opened at Victoria Domain yesterday afternoon, when a practice match was played between West End and City, Mr H. Garrett having charge of the whistle. The play was very even throughout, and resulted in a draw, each side scoring two goals. Both teams showed good form for an opening game, but the players must learn to keep their places, and remember that there is nothing like combination. A pleasing feature in connection with the game this year is the amount of enthusiasm shown by the players, which points to a very successful season. As the club competitions commence shortly, all intending players should assist by sending in their names to the various secretaries as soon as possible.
