A PEGULIA AFFAIR.
A HOUSEMAN'S DEATH,

N'spior, last night. A death under peculiar circumstances occurred at the Napier Hospital yestorday. A man named John Mode-ley was admitted to that institution on Saturday, sutl-ring from coaoussiou of the brain, from whioh bo died yesterday. It appears that he was working at Waiohiki, and on Thursday went on borsebaok to get some lambs. Co Friday morning his riderless horse, with saddle od, returned to Waiohiki pa, and search was made for Madeley. Ho was discovered in the afternoon on the rivor back, only partly dressed, Ho seemed to be dazad,.but was able to walk. On the way to Taradale, with Mr P. A. O’Dowd, who found Madeley, the pair met Mr G P, Donnelly, who detained 0 Dowd in conversation for some time, and when the latter went again to loik for Madeley ho bad disappeared. No trace of him could be found, but on Saturday morning it was ascertained that Madeley bad beou found and taken oharge of by Constable Riordao, and taken to the Napier Hospital. Probably Madeley was thrown from his horse, but if so where and when the aooidsnt occurred is unknown. An inquest was commenced to day, but was adjourned for a
