The Railway D.partment has held inquiries into two accidents on Easter Monday, In connection with a train beiDg derailed at Eketahuna through the points having been left unlocked, Porters Morton and Porter are to be dismissed. The stationmaster will be severely punished for failing to see that the points were locked before tho signal was lowered for the train to enter the station.
Porter Harney is to bo dismissed owing io the derailing of the train at Waitotara.
The Premier left for Chrislohurch tonight. David Elliott was acquitted of a charge of stealing 16 oases of fruit. Francis Waddell was found guilty of haviDg assaulted Samuel Gilmer, so as to cause him aotual bodily harm. H 8 was remanded for sentence.
