Mr Seddon has received the following communication through the Secretary of Slats for the Colonies'" Referring to your telegram respecting the San Franeifeo disaster, the fallowing has been received from His Majesty’s Ambassador at Washington : ' The President desires me to express to the Government aud people of New Zealaud his deep appreciation of their sympathy. He feels sure that they will understand the peoplo of the United Btates are none the lees grateful because it has been decided that it will beunueoeßsary to accept help from outside.’" Under these ciroumstanoes the New Zealand Government haß decided to send to the New Zealand agent at San Francisco a sum of 5000 dollars (£1250) for expenditure in the relief of the suffering, and to ensure comforts for New Zea landers in San- Francisco who may have suffered by tho diaast r.
