Christchurch, last night. ,Mr H. C. Orbell was re-elected Mayor of Akaroa, .polling 110 votes against 74 cast for G, Armstrong, his opponent. . „ Wellington, last night, ■ At last month’s meeting of, the Wellington Harbor Board complaints were received of shortage of labor on the wharves, resulting in delay in the delivery of goods. The matter was referred to a committee, which at to-day’s meeting recommended - the employment of additional casual labor. The storage and berthing committee lurnished a report to the meeting, in which it recommended that the engineer should report on the works he considers should be proceeded with, the committee recognising that further storage and berthage accommodation is necessary. It is believed that the requirements of the port will demand during the next two or three years an expenditure of a quarter of a million to cope with the increase of trade. It is also believed that the time has arrived to build wharves with other material than timber.
Tbe Wellington Education Board to day passed a resolution urging on the Department the necessity for the establishment of a High School in Wellington. Auckland, last night. A cable has been received stating that Mr W. Hartland, brother oILMr J. F. Hartland, secretary of tlio Auckland Racing Club, is safe at San Francisco.
