A SERIOUS CHARGE.

(Per Pftess Association.) Duuedin, last night. At the Police Court to-day Robert Porteous Brown was oharged with manslaughter in connection with tho death of Elizabeth McOonoohio, 80 years of age, who was presumably knocked down by a horse aad cart accused was driving. No one aotually saw the horse or cart strike the woman, and, according to accused’s employer, deceased told him that when she saw the cart approaching she got frightened and fell. He did not think she was knocked down. Accused was committed for trial and admitted to bail, whioh was fixed at self in £IOO aud two sureties of £SO each.
