NUHAKA NORTH.
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
Fine weather prevailed here during the Easthr holidays. Visitors to the thermal springs wero not so numerous on this occasion, owiug probably to the bad state of the roads. It is reported that parts of the main road between Tarewa and Wharerata are in amost deplorablo condition, many of the largo ruts being very deep. Further on, near the river below Bartlett’s, there is another spot dreaded by the travelling public, and known as Jerry’s cutting. To avoid this rough and dangerous portion of the main road, it was decidod by the powers that be to build a bridge across the river.- As the structure has been erected and the approaches thereto appear to be completed, the question is asked, Why are travellers still corns polled to keep to the old track ? Mr Sloun has sold his property to Mr N. Mclntyre. Mr Sloun qeeks a change of climate in the Auckland district. ,
Mr Joyce has disposed of his bush sections to Messrs Mather and MeGuinness, and it is reported that a, sawmill will soon be erected thereon.
At a meeting of the Nuhaka branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, held at Morere on April 14th, Mr D. Shaw presided. After some discussion it was resolved that the secretary write to the Waikokopo Harbor Board and ascertain if the Board intends taking any steps with the view of providing better shed accommodation at Waikokopo, and having other improvements effected. That the Wairoa Gonnty Council be requested to haVe some metal placed where it is urgently required on the main road between Mr Shaw’s bluff and Mungatoto, the road in several places being almost impassable for wheel traffic. It was decided that the next meeting of the Union should be held on April 28th.
