GISBORNE SCHOOL.

{To the Editor Gisborne TimesSir, —Ihe Gisborne Sohool Committee, as reported in your issue of this morning, shows in what a ctpablo manner they have carried out their duties during the past year. Fancy haviDg the lospeo'.or’s report on the annual examination of the sohool in their possession since Ootobor last, and never considering it, The question is, wbat, if anything, have they doni in the interval to have things altered for the bettor, as, acoordiDg to the Chairman, the repoit was most unfavorable, and deserved consideration ? Is it not time the householders should take a more active interest in school matters, and eleot a committee who will attend to the duties pertaining to the position ? Again, take their attitude in relation to the recent appoiutment of pupil teachers and the protest oariied last evening against the Education Board for not accepting their recommendations. Granted, in the first instance, the Committee in the absence of the latest regulations (wbioh wore published in the Government Gazetto in Marob, 1905), made a mistake, the Board, whon so informed, gave them an opportunity of rcoonsideriog their recommendation, but instead of taking an impartial view, some of the members apparently allowed personal feelings to influence them, and showed no reason why those applicants, who were recommended by Ihe headmaster, and were qualified, according to tbo regulations, should not bo appointed, ooDsequrntly the Bond had no option bat to ignore the recommendations of the Comnrttee. I fu'ly expect the Board will resign in a body when they re oeive tbe protest. Not knowing the nature of tbe Inspector’s report on the annual examination, I oonsider the remarks aoeot Mr Hi'l were in very questionable taßte, as when in Gisborne recently Mr Hill could' have been interviewed on tbe matter, but no mention was made in tbe discussion last evening of such having taken place.—l am, eto., HOUSEHOLDER.
