Too bulk of the oat orops is 6tid out, but some are uncut. The outlook for farmers is moßt gloomy, and oom plotion of the harvest has been postponed indefinitely. A fireman named J. Burgois, employed on the Waikski dredge, was earning off shift at 8 o’clock this morning in a punt with his mats, when tbe punt got into the stream (the river being in flood), and half 'filled. Both jumped out. Burgoiß was drowned. There are no further particulars. Invercargill, Saturday. The Aparima and Otautau rivers are ip flood. There, is two feet of water in tbe main street at Otautau. The line has been iwashed away, and the train was unable ;to get through this morning. Fa'mera in low-lying country are likely to bo seriously affected. Bain fell continuously for twenty-four hours, aDd has now ceased.
