MANSLAUGHTER CASE.
A DRUNKEN DRIVER’S DEED,
(F#r Press Awoelatloa.) Dunedin, last night. On March 29th Elizabeth McConcchie, 80 Years of age, was knocked down by a bu'cber’s oart at the oorner of Great Kmg aod Union streets. Serious consequences were not expeoted, but the woman died. The driver of the oart, Robert Brown, was arrested after the accident for drunkenness and fined. An inquest was held to-day. Medical ovidenoo was to the effect that from injuries on the woman s hip and ♦high it was evident the oart and horse had gone over her. The merles would nrobably not have proved fatal to a person in ordinary health, but in the case of a woman of her age they had no doubt it hastened her death. The jury returned a verdict that dooeascd met her death through having been knocked down by a horse and cart driven by one Robert BroWD, ho being unfit) to control such a horse and oart, baiDg under the influence of liquor. Brown was at once arrested on a oharge of manslaughter.
