Two hundred and fifty miners and en« gineers are now exploring, but the work is exhausting owing to the noxious gas.

Paris, Aptil 2. M. Barthon, Minister for' Works, opnferred tho Cross of the Legion of Honor on Nemy and Pruvost, the leading surviving miners, and gold medals on eleven others. He oonfers tbe decoration of the Chevalier Legion on the chief of the German salvage corps who took part in the operations, and gold medals on the regi of the corps.
