The Bloemfontein Post says that Smuts, Esselen, Hertzog, and Fischer, at a reoent meeting, discussed closer anion with the Transvaal, and decided that a preliminary step muet be the absorption of tbe Orangia Union by the Het Volk, tho latter and the Bond to promote an Afrikander Federation when responsible government is granted.

Lord Milner, in the House of Lords, urged that the Government, in granting responsible government to the oolonies, should keep the land laws in their own control, allaying tbe alarm of British settlers.
