For the opening ode competition in connection with the Exhibition, 69 poems were received from New Zealand, New South Wales, and Victoria. The Judge, Professor Macmillan Brown, has made his award as follows : First prize, Johsnnes 0. Andersen (Obristehurcb) ; second prize, Hubert Church (Wellington) ; ,Luoy E. Smith (Duoedin) and Charles F. Salmond (Ashburton) reoeived honorable mention. The first prizo ode, and Professor Macmillan Brown’s report will be published in the principal New papers simultaneously on March 31st,
