DEATH OF REV- FATHER MULVIHILL,
The Rev. Father Mulvihil), of St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Churob, peacefully passed away at midnight after a protraoted illness, during whioh he suffered much pain, which he bore with much fortitude. For many yoars pa-t the rev. Father’s health had been poorly, and at ore time be left Gisborne for a period in the hope of tbe change being beneficia l , but he freely acknowledged that he was glad to return to his old home in Gisborne, and beiDg granted assistance in the woik of his church he steadfastly remained at bis post untii he became too weak to continue. I must keenly feel the loss- of this great and good man, the feeling of deep regret will be shared in by members of all denominations, Tbe' Rev. Father Mulvihill was of a retiring and unostentatious disdisposition, but he was gifted with a magnetio influence and persuasive eloquence that gave him a great influence over all with whom he came in contao>.
He had the most kindly and self-eacrificiog nature, and a firmness in carrying out his duties that was tempered by the most I generous of dispositions. He was guide, 1 counsellor, and friend ; a masterly scholar * and an able preacher, revered by old and c young alike. His death can hardly come * as a surprise, owing to his oritical ' condition for some time past. Ho had 6 faithfully fulfilled the work set him by his Mastor, and the end was peaoe. Ho was rational until the last.
The Bev. Father Mulvihill was born in County Kerry, Ireland, in 1868, beiog educated at Maynooth and Killarney Colleges. He was ordained at Maynooth in 1892 by tbe Bight Rev. Dr. Walsh, I Archbishop of Dublin. Ho went to Edinburgh, aod in that city officiated at Bt. | Patrick’s Church until the end of 1895. I Then he left for New Zealand, arriving at Wellington, and then proceeding (o Auck-) land to take up an appointment in St. j Patriok’s Cathedral.
