AN APPEAL FROM THE GISBORNE GUY BAND. eg—tjj t TO THE RESIDENTS OF GISBORNE AND SURROUNDING DISTRICTS. jjEAR SIR or MADAM,— At a Special Meeting of the Gisborne City Band, hejd on 23rd February, 1906, in the Bandroom, it was deoided to try and place the Band on a better footing with the public of Gisborne, and on a par with the leading Bands of the Colony. To farther this objoo-, the Band desire to place their position before the people, so that any who desire to help will know exactly what they are giving to. In the first plaoe, the whole of the Band’s props! ty, and any that may be added to it, is invested in the following gentlemen, os trustees for the people of Gisborne : Messrs J. W. Nolan, Major Winter, A, G. Brere, and J. Brown. Between those trustees and the Band a deed exists, with one clause to the effeot that iu the event of the Band breaking up, all the property becomes the people’s own.. Another olause is, that the Baad cannot finance on their property, as other bands do,, wh'ch means that tho Band must have the ready cash before now uniforms or instruments can be provided. This, as you see, makes it absolutely neco3sary, if the Baod is to prosper, as the people’s Band of Gisborne, that it must be readily supported with subscriptions from the Public. The assets of the Band at present are about £4OO, en increase of about £3OO siooe the deed was drawn up between the people and the Band. Tb’s will show that the financing of the Band ba3 been, and is being, conduced in a business-like manner, and you may rely on the faot that any rom’fcs of this appeal will be used to the besb advantage by the Band. Tho B ind have eleoted tho Mayor, John Townloy, Esq., President for the eoßuhag I year, and E. Murphy and Cyril White, Esqs, and the Hon. J. Carroll have been approached, with a view to getting their servioes as Vice-Presidents. The Band have also opened an Honorary Members’ List, and as a result of ‘sending each pro. minorit citizon a'circular, giving them the Band’s position, a number of gentlemen have already become honorary members of the Band, at a subscription of 10s 6d per annum, The Band respectfully ask those who have reoeived circulars to do their best in the interests of an association which is trying to make itself worthy of the district it iepreseDt3; also, to those who have not reoeived circulars, the Band ask them to forgivo the oversight and send any subscription for (he Uniform Fund to the Band Secretary, who will be pleased to acknowledge them at a future date in the daily papers. In conclusion, We remain, Yours respeotfully (For the Band Committee), JOHN TOWNLEY, Presk ALICE M. PICKFORD, Hon, Seo, (P.O. Bos No,
